VeriFactu for the self-employed: dates, duties and options

If you pay tax under the state regime and you are not on SII or TicketBAI, the published calendar puts you with the rest of the obliged persons: 1 July 2027. The October 2028 announcement is not in the official gazette yet.

30-second summary

  • You do not share the companies’ date, which on the published calendar is 1 January 2027.
  • The tax agency’s free app is a real option if you invoice little and that tool is enough.
  • Excel and Word are not an invoicing computer system.
  • The modules scheme does not by itself take you out of the regime: the case has to be checked with the firm.
  • B2B e-invoicing in October 2028 for the rest of companies and the self-employed is a different rule.

Does it affect me?

It affects you if you have to invoice with a computer system under the regulation and you are not on a different channel, such as SII or TicketBAI. A self-employed person in the common territory, on direct assessment, is inside that perimeter unless their specific case says otherwise.

This page does not replace your firm. It stops you arriving at the meeting believing that “the self-employed are exempt”.

When?

Published date for the rest of the obliged persons, including the self-employed: 1 July 2027. Companies go earlier on that same calendar, on 1 January 2027.

The Treasury announced on 5 and 6 October 2026 a move to October 2028 for everyone. Until it is published, July 2027 is not crossed out.

Can I use the tax agency’s free app?

Yes. It is the agency’s own free option. It fits if you issue few invoices and you do not need payroll, clock-in or a firm entering your company.

If you already digitise expenses, work with a firm or want the history next to the rest of the management, a separate program has a different scope. It is not more compliant because it is paid.

What about Excel?

You can keep notes wherever you like. You cannot treat the spreadsheet as the system that requires chained records, retention and integrity. When the deadline that applies to you is in force, Excel is not the invoicing system.

What if I am on the modules scheme?

Being on the modules scheme is not, by itself, the sentence “it does not affect me” that circulates online. The fit depends on how you invoice and on whether a special regime takes you out of the article. That is checked with the firm and the tax agency, not with a headline.

Frequently asked questions

Do the self-employed go in January 2027?

Not on the published calendar. January 2027 is the companies’ date. Everyone else, including the self-employed, goes to July 2027, unless the delay to October 2028 is published.

Does the tax agency app free me from a program?

It frees you from paying for a program if invoicing there is enough. It does not free you from the duty if the regulation applies and you stop using it.

Is this e-invoicing?

No. E-invoicing between companies has its own order and deadlines. For most self-employed people, that published deadline is October 2028.
